President’s Message January 2017
Dear Colleagues and Members;
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very safe and happy Holiday Season. After a very busy Fall, it will be a well-deserved rest for everyone involved in the public education system.
This Fall, the BCCLA hosted a day-long session entitled, “Teacher as Leader and Learner: Empowering Authentic and Co-Created Learning”. Facilitator Vince Gowmon led the 120 teachers through learning strategies and tactics that teachers could use directly with their students in the classroom. We hosted the session at Summit Middle School in Coquitlam (School District 43), and were joined by educators from across the Lower Mainland and Howe Sound region. Welcome to our new members from that session!
As we move forward with the Revised Curriculum, we have an opportunity to bring teachers together to explore Cooperative Learning within the Core and Curricular Competencies. Through our newsletter, website, and the opportunities to host future workshops, the BCCLA has an important role to play in the professional development of our peers.
We welcome our new members and invite all members to share their experiences with cooperative learning in their classroom by submitting articles to our publication by emailing our editor Erica Tjart at firstname.lastname@example.org
All the best in the New Year!!!
