President’s Message June 2018
Dear Colleagues and Members,
The BCCLA has had a very successful year with lots of news to share. First, we would like to extend a BIG thank you to Darcy Ellis who led our team as president for the past two years. Darcy’s expertise, rooted in Restorative Practices and Aboriginal Education, brought new perspectives about teaching and learning to our PSA. While Darcy has stepped out of the role of president, we are pleased that he is staying on as past president and member-at-large.
At this time, we also welcome Roger Raghoobarsingh as member-at-large. Roger has used cooperative learning strategies in his classroom for many years, creating meaningful learning experiences for students. We are excited that Roger has joined us!
Planning our October 19th PSA Day is underway! We are thrilled to be teaming up with the BC Early Career Teachers Association to bring you some fantastic choices. Please watch for details in our next newsletter and on our website!
The BCCLA recently had the opportunity to connect and share ideas with colleagues in SD49 (Bella Coola). Thank you to our colleagues in Bella Coola for a welcoming, rewarding and fun day and a half together. We worked together to deepen our understanding of the Core and Curricular Competencies, and the interconnecting role that cooperative learning plays.
In closing, as a longtime member of the BCCLA executive, I once again find myself in the role of president. I am very much looking forward to the possibilities, and am thankful to be working with my amazing BCCLA colleagues as we find ways to create meaningful PD opportunities for you!
